Hey all you cool cats!

This is an update about the Music Showcase! I'm thinking the event will take place on the last day of April so folks who are participating in this month's game-wide event have a couple of days to recover. This also gives the characters a place to vent after a traumatic experience too. Given my schedule, I'll probably put up the post on Thursday night but the event will take place on Friday, April 30th. If this date doesn't work for you for any reason, let me know.

After the cut, you'll find the tentative setlist and additional notes. All of this is up for change as characters can still sign up. I truly believe we can use anime rules of "oh no, I only have a week to learn this instrument and practice and yet somehow turn out a perfect performance!" because my goal here is just to get as many artists and fans to interact as possible. This means if you just got accepted into the game, please feel free to sign up for the event at the Sign-Up Page!

I've also seen a lot of people who asked if their character could play even though they aren't really a performer so much as just someone who knows an instrument or two. The answer to this is always YES. If you have a character who would be interested in performing whatever it is that they want to perform, stick 'em on the signup page.

Okay now onto the deets!

General Notes:

We have around 20 performers in total who signed up. Each performer will be allowed to create a three-to-four song set, which will total about 10-15 minutes each. This means the event will be over three hours. Because of this, I've worked in a little Intermission to give people a break. This should also be a prime time to RP anything you want around the event.

Throughout the night, DJ Thornz and Present Mic will be there to help with transitions. We have a wide variety of music genres here and I tried to put it together in a way that makes sense, but these two will be here to make sure the flow isn't too jarring. DJ Thornz will also be plugging her business so feel free to reply to her comment on the signup page if you think your character will end up being her fan.

Present Mic works as a radio DJ, but he's also familiar with being the hype man at sports and other events. He's loud, enthusiastic, and generally got that good old-fashioned radio host persona down pat when he's working. Expect him to build up each act with a personal touch -- he's going to do his research about each act, and will happily chat them up before and after their set to get to know them better. He's got a wide music knowledge base at least from his world and is eager to learn new styles, genres groups, and individuals from all sorts of spaces. He doesn't do a lot of the actual DJ improving, since his work is mostly talking and working with other artists. His setlists are hand-picked though! Any live music between sets would be left to DJ Thornz with Present Mic's enthusiastic encouragement.

There were a few folks who signed up to help behind the scenes by providing backup music or instruments, acting as roadies, providing funding, and offering special effects. I made a section of the signup page just listing who they are and what they're going to be doing. If you feel that your band will benefit from that, feel free to reply to their comments on the signup page. It's free CR!

Setlist (Subject to Change):

I'm presenting the setlist as the performer/group name, a quick summary of how their performance goes, and the link to their comment on the signup page. The link is provided in case you want to reply to them and tell them you will be their character's biggest fan or whatever else drama you'd like to provide. :D

I also want to note that a couple of acts didn't get their preferred placement because of the general flow of how the night would play out. If this is an issue, I'll figure out how to better place the characters. The big thing here is that this is all actually pretend and not a real music show, so it matters more to me that you are happy with where your character is placed than if it "makes sense" as a real show. We can always come up with some reason why it makes better sense for your character to be where you want them to be. Just leave a comment or reach out to me at [plurk.com profile] theangstmonkey. I will always be up for updating the setlist as needed.

FINALLY, because the setlist is currently in flux, it might be a good idea to check it before the event goes up. To limit the amount of spam on the OOC community, I'll be shifting things around here from now on. If anyone else gets added or changed, it will be on this post. A few things will likely stay the way they are: Spock is solidified as the opening act now, WangXian will always be after Antonio and the last traditional act to help blend into pop, the idol groups will stay together, Johnny will always go before Xanadu, and Xanadu will always be last. The rest is subject to change based on new entries, player input, or any other factors.

Here's the list as it stands now:

01. Spock - Our opening number with traditional classical music. A very respectful and talented performance makes for a good, entertaining, and thought-provoking start to the show. Spock also appears throughout the night as a backup for artists who need it. All around good boy Vulcan. (link)

02. Zelda - This princess stuns us all with her gorgeous dress and beautiful harp and vocal performance. Beautiful, stunning, could weep at the sight of such a goddess. (link)

03. Master Antonio - A supernaturally talented solo violinist who ends his set with a spectacular display of demonic power. The crowd is awed and stunned into silence. Thank god for Present Mic's ability to help the crowd recover. (link)

04. WangXian - Luckily Mic has help from this duo who offers a blend of traditional/pop sound in their music and magic that helps soothe the crowd after Antonio's display. One of them is just extra enough to include his own demonic abilities to make it all seem like part of the show. The blend of their sound also lends well towards moving to the pop section of the night. True MVPs, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a huge shipper. (link)

05. Miu Hinasaki - The first pop performer of the night, who gives a perfect stage performance with charisma and energy, but seems apathetic backstage. Someone give this girl a cookie and a pillow fort, I think she needs some comfort. NOTE: I joke, but Kerry legitimately will set aside some space for her after her performance because he is going to end up the worried uncle of all of the popstars isn't he? (link)

06. Oh Inha - A brand new idol! The crowd's going to love her and so will the idol boys coming after her, apparently. Is Kerry going to have to remind the boys to get ready because they're up next?? (Seriously, he's going to adopt all of you pop kids) (link)

07. TRIGGER - The start of our idol boy group block. This is going to end up being the section with the most rapid fans, I think (Kerry included). Seriously, the next three groups all feed off each other's energy so that's going to be a lot of fun for idol fans! Enjoy! (link)

08. IDOLiSH7 - The next idol boy group, totally presh with absolutely talented singers and dancers. Do your best for Kerry-san and Momo, boys! (link)

09. Re:vale - The last of the idols, he ends his set with a more mellow/jazzy performance which leads to a good spot for intermission and gives us a nice place to come back to a more folky/acoustic vibe. Yay for handing us a good transition, you talented blue-haired bishie. (link)

INTERMISSION

10. Dorian Pavus - This performance is of "traditional Tevinter" music which has sort of a folk fantasy vibe. There is a tragic lack of sexy scarf dancing, but the music and the performer still have a slightly scandalous vibe thanks to an epic voice actor and general attractiveness. This makes it a perfect place to come back to and allows us to get into the folk/acoustic section of the night! (link)

11. Jaskier - A bard with a rockin' lute and general drive to tell us how awesome his best friend is. Feel free to bully him into singing about literally anything else. (link)

12. Ryan Fielding - A provider of dad rock and boy-with-an-acoustic-guitar vibe. He is also here to be a backup for any performers that need either piano or guitar. Please enjoy many middle-aged male characters vibing to this music. (link)

13. Ikaruga - This sexy lady ends the acoustic section of the show. She's going to wow the crowd with her own magical talent and general acting ability. Feel free to have anyone try to touch her mid-performance so she can suplex a man without skipping a beat. (link)

14. Uenoyama Ritsuka - The start of the electric/harder rock section by easing us into it with some UK rock. Ritsuka is going to focus on instrumentals, with no lyrics. Despite that, it's still going to be an entertaining set as his raw talent shines through! Someone get him a sad boy singer stat (link)

15. Xinyan - This rocker will also use her magical ability to really wow the audience and show them a good time. She might need a nap or a good cuddle after to replenish her Mana supply, but it's totally going to be worth it. (link)

16. Piers - A punk rock performer with original music! Just his style is punk rock on its own, the music is gonna knock your socks off! It also leads well to the chromerock that will end the night. (link)

17. Johnny Silverhand - This Ruby rockerboy uses his new abilities to cause a small fire on stage but is it even a rock show without a little property damage? Johnny's placement as second-to-last is purely because his sound blends the best with Kerry's sound and not at all because Kerry enjoys the idea of treating his long-time infatuation as an opening act. (link)

19. Xanadu - This is Kerry's band! They will go on last and provide a rockin' experience to end the night. Members include: Kerry Eurodyne (that's me!), Anna "LA" Hetfield ([personal profile] eights_and_aces), Connor ([personal profile] plasticasshole), Kanade Amou ([personal profile] recremation). Their merch is also available for folks who want to show off their support. (link)
